Have I told you yet how much I love Julep? Julep is a monthly subscription service for nail polish. I signed up late December and I've gotten three boxes, plus I've purchased from their website separately. My absolute favorite color is Taylor, a gorgeous purpley-periwinkle blue:

There's a lot to love. I think the Julep formula is great, it goes on well for me in two coats and dries quickly. Much like other services you take a quiz when you initially sign up to determine your "style." You're not stuck with that style every month, however. They email you about a week before they charge you and ship your box, and at that point you can log on to their site and pick a different style if another one appeals to you. You can also (easily!) skip a month if nothing calls out to you, or even send your box to a friend instead of receiving it yourself. Can I just say that I wish more subscription services would do that? I'd stay with so many if I could skip months once in a while. Their boxes are always packaged cutely, come with at least two nail polishes and a third item. I've received an incredible cuticle oil, a hand scrub, and a body scrub. One of the styles usually has three polishes instead.

The monthly box is $19.99, but if you use code PENNY you can try it out for $.01. Follow them on Twitter @JulepMaven and on facebook--they're always having great sales (and Mavens get free shipping!).

Kinerase/Lisa Hoffman/Canyon Ranch

Over the past few days I've tried three of the things I was most excited about from my Beautyfix box:

Lisa Hoffman Beauty Night and Day 2 Vitamin A and C Serum If you watched my unboxing, you know I'm a little wary of any product with "Serum" in the name (also that I am incapable of opening things). According to its product blurb, the serum is supposed to improve skin texture, moisturize to minimize fine lines, and create an overall "healthier" appearance. The serum itself is clear with only a faint odor, and when I first put it on my skin it's a little greasy feeling. After that it soaks right in, and goes on nicely underneath a moisturizer. You're supposed to apply it in the morning and evening, but I'm afraid it will be too oily under makeup so I haven't tried that yet (maybe on a day off). Verdict: Feels nice, too early to tell if it has the intended effects. I'll keep you updated.

Canyon Ranch Balance Light Weight Moisture So far I've tried this in the evening after washing my face and in the morning. At night I use a Clarisonic brush with La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Gel Cleanser (a winter beautyfix pick), and Canyon Ranch wasn't heavy enough afterwards. In the morning I use Skyn Iceland Pure Cloud Cleanser, about which I will refrain from raving incessantly, and Canyon Ranch is a perfect moisturizer to go on before makeup. It soaked right in but I still felt and looked moisturized, so that's a win.

Kinerase Photofacials Night Moisturizer I'm glad I only got a 1oz sample of this, because it stung my face something fierce. I used it after the Lisa Hoffman Serum, so I already had some sort of moisturizing base on, and it made my cheeks feel raw, almost like after bad windburn or something. I don't know enough about ingredients to hazard a guess as to what might have been in there that caused the reaction, but it was awfully unpleasant. My skin has been a little drier than usual this week, so maybe I'll give it another shot when that's not a problem. Maybe.

March MyGlam

I'm glad I didn't pay for this stinky mess...did anyone have better luck with theirs?

March Birchbox

LOVE this month's birchbox!

Essie luxe effects nail polish in "a cut above"
Tarte lipsurgence natural lip stain in "amuse"
Twistband hairtie
Shiseido (i pronounce this wrong in the video, i think) oil-control blotting papers
Annick Goutal Petite Cherie perfume sample

I really liked this month's teen vogue box. If birchbox made teen-oriented birchboxes a permanent feature, I might be tempted to subscribe twice.

Still to come: March Birchbox and MyGlam bag...

Between working full time, graduate school, and trying to have some semblance of a social life, I tend to get a little burnt out. I decided to start a blog dedicated to one of my more frivolous pursuits--beauty! All of the opinions expressed here are my own, and unless otherwise stated I have not been been paid for my review.
